Webb receives BSCC’s Diversity Excellence Award
Tyrone Webb, Assistant Dean for Library and Learning Resources, was recently presented Bevill State's first Diversity Excellence Award.
The award, presented by BSCC President Dr. Anne McNutt, is designed to annually recognize those faculty, staff, administrators, offices, departments, or divisions demonstrating the highest commitment to enhancing collegiate excellence through diversity.
"Mr. Webb has been instrumental in promoting diversity at this institution for many years," said McNutt. "His leadership with the college-wide diversity committee has resulted in the implementation of several activities that create a more diverse culture across the entire college community."
Webb has been with the college since 1989 and is currently a member of the President's Administrative Council and chairs the college-wide diversity committee. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in History and Library Science from Alabama State University as well as a Master's Degree in History and Education. He also holds a Master's of Library Science from the University of Alabama.
Webb stressed that as educators it is our responsibility to prepare students to meet the challenges of a diverse workplace in a global society. "I am very honored to receive this award," said Webb. "I believe that we have to learn how to communicate and teach between all ethnic and cultural perspectives, and I am committed to creating an environment that promotes inclusion, respect, community, and appreciation for the full tapestry that comprises the human experience."
