NEW ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN VEHICLE TECHNOLOGY AND REPAIR OFFERED THIS FALL
Bevill State Community College will offer a new Associate Degree in Vehicle Technology and Repair beginning this fall at the Hamilton and Sumiton locations. Through the Vehicle Technology and Repair Program (VTR), students have the option to specialize in Automotive Service Excellence, Auto Body Repair or Diesel Technician.
This program will prepare technicians for employment in new vehicle dealerships, independent repair establishments, auto body repair shops, fleet service centers, and rental organizations. Students will be educated to work on current model vehicles in this comprehensive, National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) certified, Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) based training program.
“The VTR program will be a tremendous benefit to students who are preparing to work in the vehicle technology and repair industry,” said Al Moore, Bevill State Dean of Career Technical Education. “We are excited to implement this program at the college and feel that through this program, students will gain the experience and knowledge to be more versatile in the field and enhance their employability.”
According to Moore, the core field of study courses in this program, electrical fundamentals, braking systems, steering/suspension and heating/air conditioning, are important to all employers in the vehicle technology and repair industry.
Moore stated that a short-term certificate in VTR and long-term certificates in the three options Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), Auto Body Repair (ABR) or Diesel Technician (DEM) are also being offered. These certificates can be earned separately or in conjunction with the Associate in Applied Science degree.
Students interested in the program may register for fall semester classes now through August 19. The VTR degree with all options will be available on the Sumiton Campus and the VTR with the ASE option will be offered at Hamilton.
