11-13-2008

The Alabama State Board of Education approved Dr. Anne McNutt as president of Bevill State Community College on Thursday, November 13, 2008, making McNutt the third person in Bevill State’s history to serve as the college’s top administrator.

McNutt will officially take over as president of the college in January from interim president Neal Morrison, who replaced Harold Wade after his retirement in August of 2007. Wade served as president of Bevill State since its inception in 1992 when Walker State Technical College in Sumiton merged with Brewer State Junior College in Fayette.

McNutt looks forward to her new position as president. “I am very enthusiastic about leading Bevill State Community College as it works closely with the communities it serves to promote economic and human resource development in central-northwest Alabama,” she said.  “The College is blessed with an excellent faculty and staff who care deeply for the success of the students at BSCC.

“The strong community support for Bevill State is also very impressive,” said McNutt. “The new I-22 corridor bodes well for the future development of the region and of the College. With the success of the state in attracting new industry and the renewed emphasis on the Alabama Community College System, this is

indeed an exciting time to be named President at BSCC.”
McNutt previously served as president of the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Beaufort, South Carolina, a position she held for 21 years. Prior to that, she served as dean of instruction at Nashville State Technical Community College in Nashville, TN. Her additional experience with two-year colleges includes service as a faculty member and interim president.

McNutt received her doctorate in Higher Education Administration from George Peabody College for Teachers, now Vanderbilt University, in Nashville, TN.  She holds a master’s degree in English and a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN.

“Dr. McNutt has a long history of leadership, not just at her college in South Carolina but across the nation,” Byrne said. “We are very excited to have someone with her wealth of knowledge and experience joining our system.”

As an educator, McNutt brings more than 30 years of experience to the institution including memberships to a variety of professional organizations such as the American Council on Education, American Association of Community Colleges, American Association of Higher Education and the American Technical Association among many others.
