Bevill State wins big against Huntingdon

            The Bevill State Community College Bears defeated the Huntingdon College Junior Varsity Hawks 93-46 on December 15, 2008. The Bears led throughout the contest, including starting off with an amazing first half by outscoring Huntingdon 55-14 in the first 20 minutes. The Hawks came out firing in the second period, but were still outscored by the Bears 38-32 in the second half. Bevill State shot 69.5 percent on field goals, and at the end of the contest, the Bears had scored more points in the first period that than Hawks managed for the entire game, proving how well the Bears were playing on both sides of the ball.

An explosive offense led by Mike Campbell and Pat Carr propelled Bevill State to the victory. Campbell had 22 points, and Carr added 19 points and one assist. Erin Harris and Justin Clements also scored in double digits, Harris with 13 points and an assist and Clements with 10 points and one assist. Ervin Herron, Allen Rigsby, and McClain Burrough had seven points each, with Darryl Blackmon and Jeromy Fason rounding out the offense with four points apiece. Rigsby and Fason added three assists each, with Burrough and Blackmon totaling one apiece.

Defensive leaders for the Bears were Clements and Harris with 10 rebounds apiece, each earning a double-double. Clements added three steals and a block to his numbers, and Harris had one steal as well. Burrough, Campbell, and Fason each added two steals, with Blackmon, Rigsby, and Carr managing one steal each.

The Bevill State Bears (3-8) travel to the Pensacola New Year’s Tournament in Pensacola, Florida, on December 30.
