02-09-2009
Coming off a seven day lay-off, the Lady Bears returned to action at home on Thurs., Feb. 5, against division rival Gadsden State. In the first meeting on Jan. 8, the Bears claimed a 70-60 win in a hard fought battle in Gadsden. The first half of the game saw the Lady Bears struggle from the floor and went into the lockerroom with a 20-19 lead. The Bears used a smothering full court press for much of the second half to force Gadsden into 14 turnovers to take control of the game. Converting on turnovers and a much better shooting performance from the field would contribute to the win for Bevill State. Jasmin Brooks led the team with 14 points while teammates Tyffani Fenwick and Antoria Elliott each contributed 12 points each. Shevonne Seymore and Janae Swann both collected eight rebounds each for the Lady Bears. Coach Joe Richardson commented on the team's effort saying, "I feel like the girls came out in the second half with an added sense of urgency. We had trouble scoring in the first half but overcame our sluggish stated when our press caused some turnovers in the second half." The win improves the Lady Bears to 13-9 overall and 3-3 in the conference. |
