  BSCC Hosts High School Scholar's Bowl

Bevill State Community College recently hosted the annual High School Scholar’s Bowl Competition with 11 area high schools participating. High schools represented included Berry, Carbon Hill, Cordova, Gordo, Hubbertville, Lamar County, Northside, Oakman, Pickens Academy, Pickens County and South Lamar.

 

The competition was divided into three divisions (Blue, Green, White) with five teams in each division competing.  The blue division winner was Pickens Academy, South Lamar 1 captured the green division title and  the white division winner was South Lamar 2.  Claiming the “wild card” team in the divisional competition was Lamar County.

 

In one semi-final round, Pickens Academy defeated South Lamar 2 and in the other semi final round Lamar County defeated South Lamar 1. Lamar County defeated Pickens Academy in the final round to claim the championship.

 

Those receiving individual honors for the day were:

All-Stars: Bryant Harbin, Carbon Hill; Stacey Brand, Oakman 1; Kjellye Henegar, South Lamar 1; Victoria Miller South Lamar 2; Peyton Moss, South Lamar 1.

 

Honorable Mention All-Stars:  Mariah Turman, Berry; Cassidy Shadinger, Carbon Hill; Ethan Mitchell and Jacob Williams, Cordova; Kayla Gann and Amy Perrigin, Gordo 1; Jake Robertson, Hubbertville; Kyle Galloway, Lamar County 2; Jason Rice, Northside; Matt House, Oakman 2; Brett Trull and Lacy Kyles, Pickens Academy; Brandon Bonner, Pickens County; and Russ Cole, South Lamar 1.

Justin Randolph, from the Lamar County first team, received the most valuable player award for the tournament.
