BSCC Nursing Ranked Among Top 50 in Nation
07-08-2009
Bevill State Community College has been ranked among the top 50 nursing program producers for two-year colleges across the nation. Each year, Community College Week releases a special report featuring the top 100 degree & certificate producing two-year institutions. According to the report, Bevill State’s Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program ranked 44th in the number of degrees awarded in the 2007-2008 year. The college awarded 194 ADN degrees during this time, a three percent increase in the number of degrees awarded from the previous year. This increase is no surprise to college officials who have a seen a steady rise in all health science areas over the past few years. “Health related careers, especially nursing, are in demand and will continue to grow due to the nursing shortage across the nation,” said Dr. Anne McNutt, Bevill State President. “This recognition is a great accomplishment for any community college, but is even more significant for a rural institution. Our nursing program is very successful and currently enrolls approximately one-third of the student population. We expect that number to increase as the need for nurses continues to grow.” Bevill State operates the Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing programs on all four main campuses and Practical Nursing at the Pickens County Educational Center. In addition to nursing, the Health Science division offers degrees and certificates in Emergency Medical Services, Phlebotomy, Surgical Operating Room Technology, Certified Nursing Assistant, Health Care Office Technician, and Mental Health Qualified Technician.
