The Bevill State volleyball team split four matches over the weekend at the Lawson State tournament and dropped two matches during the week to drop to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
After taking the first set, the Lady Bears fell at home to Southern Union Wednesday 25-23, 13-25, 17-25, 21-25.
LaShay Henke led the way in kills with 10, while Haley Wiggins followed with nine and Kathryn Colston with seven. Lauren Beason was the leader in assists with 35.
Henke and Meagan Box led the front line defense with two total blocks apiece. Danielle Brown had a good game on the back line with 34 digs for the defense.
The Lady Bears traveled to conference leader and nationally-ranked Wallace-State Hanceville on Tuesday, playing tough but falling in straight sets. Complete statistics were not immediately available.

BSCC struggled early but pulled away from Wallace-Selma in their first match, winning 26-24, 25-8.
Colston led the offense with six kills, followed by Wiggins with five and Meagan Box with four. Taylor Jones was tops in assists with 16, and Box was the leader at the net with three total blocks.
The Lady Bears hung tough with Southern Union, but strong net play from the Bison left Bevill State with a 20-25, 15-25 loss.
Box was the leader in kills with four, and Colston followed with three. Jones was again the assist leader, totaling 13. Wiggins was the defensive leader with two total blocks.
The squad had their hands full with host Lawson State, losing the first set and taking the match into extra points to fight back for a 20-25, 25-10, 16-14 thriller.
Box totaled double digits in kills with 10 to lead the way, while Colston and Wiggins posted seven apiece. Colston and Kaci Ritchie of Guin led the front line with two total blocks each, and Jones posted her season-high with 29 assists in the match.
The Lady Bears went toe-to-toe with a longtime foe in the final match, battling Northwest-Shoals point for point in the first two sets before running out of gas in the final set to fall 25-22, 22-25, 5-15.
Box was again the leader in kills with nine, while Wiggins added four. Jones was tops in assists with 14. The defense performed well throughout the match, with the team totaling 10 blocks, led by four from Box.
The back line also performed well, with three players totaling double digits in digs –Brown with 26, Colston with 16, and Holli Kilcrease with 10.
