BSCC Volleyball to hold “Dig for the Cure” Fundraiser
10-13-2009

The Bevill State volleyball team is recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Tuesday, Oct. 20, and is asking for the community’s support to help the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The Lady Bears will hold a “Dig for the Cure” fundraising event as part of their home match against Wallace State-Hanceville on October 20 at 6 p.m. The squad will wear pink uniforms for the match in honor of those fighting breast cancer. Donations will be taken at the gate and all proceeds will be given to the Komen Foundation for breast cancer research and awareness.

“This is an event that is important to me and important to our team,” head coach Sandra Holliman said. “We all know someone who has been affected by cancer and likely someone who has dealt with breast cancer and we wanted to show our support for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

“I also think it is a teaching moment for our team, to think about giving back to their community and to others in need. Sports only lasts a short period of time in their lives, and I want to be sure we have prepared them to be outstanding people after they leave our program.”

Donations will be accepted prior to the match in the Bevill State Fayette Campus Business Office or by mail to Mr. Russell Howton, Bevill State Community College, 1411 Indiana Avenue, Jasper, AL 35501. Please make checks payable to Susan G. Komen Foundation.
