Collision repair technicians straighten bent frames, remove dents, and replaced crumpled parts that are beyond repair to make cars and trucks look and drive like new.

Various occupations available to our graduates are body and sheet metal technician or helper, refinishing and paint technician or helper, frame technician, estimator or damage appraiser, shop manager, and sales in paint or parts.

The majority of graduates from the Bevill State Auto Body Repair Technology (ABR) program move into the field as technicians with particular areas of expertise.



 
A certificate in Auto Body Repair Technology can provide you with the foundation on which a rewarding career can be built. According to labor statistics, the number of technician positions is expected to grow faster than average because of the increasing number of vehicles on the road and the complexity of repairing damaged vehicles. The placement rate of graduates of the Bevill State Auto Body Repair Technology program has been almost 100% in recent years, with many students obtaining employment prior to graduation.
 
 
Skills for Success
Persons interested in becoming collision repair technicians should possess basic skills in math, reading, computer, and problem solving. Good written/oral communication skills along with good hand-eye coordination are important in this field.
 
 
Training and Experience are Rewarded
With quality educational training and experience, former students of the Collision Repair Technology program at Bevill State can make up to $65,000 per year. Depending on the location of employment, graduates generally start at $12-$15 per hour and with a few years of experience can earn between $25-$35 per hour.

The Auto Body Refinishing Program is accredited by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (ASE), 101 Blue Seal Drive, Suite 101, Leesburg, Virginia 20175. Te program received initial accreditation/certification in May 2006 and is scheduled for a reaccreditation visit in May 2011.
