The Automotive Technology program at Bevill State Community College can be completed in just two short years. With the transportation system in the United States being at an all-time high, this technical field could be just right for you.

Among the various occupations our graduates are qualified to seek are automotive technicians, managers, automotive parts sales, service sales, assemblers, and warranty clerks.The majority of graduates from the Bevill State Automotive Technology program move into the field as automotive technicians. The automotive technician troubleshoots mechanical or electrical problems involving the automobile and then makes adjustments, repairs, or replacements. The automotive technician also plays a vital role in the avoidance of mechanical troubles by providing and prescribing preventive maintenance.




 
Persons interested in becoming an automotive technician should possess basic knowledge in math, science, and physics. The introduction of computers in diagnostic testing also places value on general computer knowledge. Good communication skills and average physical abilities are also required of automotive technicians.

According to labor statistics, the number of automotive technician positions is expected to grow faster than average in coming years and opportunities will be very good for those with the necessary skills. Our Automotive Technology program receives an average of 10 to 12 inquiries from industry each month seeking potential employees. The placement rate of graduates of the Bevill State Machine Tool Technology program has exceeded 90% in recent years, with many students obtaining employment prior to graduation.

With quality educational training and experience, graduates of the Automotive Technology program at Bevill State make between $22,000 and $35,000 per year, and with a motivated effort those annual salaries can be doubled. Depending on the location of employment, general starting pay ranges between $10-$20 per hour and with a few years of experience pay ranges can average $23-$28 per hour.
