Bevill State Adult Education Launches Free Pharmacy Tech Career Pathway

June 27, 2023

Bevill State Community College Department of Adult Education is proud to announce the launch of a new online Pharmacy Tech training class. The interactive online course is free of charge to individuals who qualify for Adult Education services.

Director of Adult Education, Dr. Stephanie Maddox, says, “We are thrilled to offer this career pathway through Adult Education. The online career training was co-developed by community colleges and pharmacists to ensure a quality of instruction that prepares students for both the national certification exam and a new career. Through an integrated approach offered concurrently via online access, participants receive contextualized instruction with the opportunity to earn one or more short-term certifications.”

Interested individuals may contact Bevill State’s Adult Education Department at adulted@bscc.edu to determine eligibility and request a seat in the Pharmacy Tech class. Featuring 300 hours of curriculum, students learn at their own pace using a multimedia format compatible with desktop computers, tablets, or smartphones.

“Dr. Maddox has managed an excellent addition to Bevill State’s workforce course offerings. This program provides a comprehensive skill set that well prepares individuals for their future career. Participants cover topics such as federal law, pharmacy terminology, medical anatomy and systems, calculations, pharmacy operations, and communication,” says Al Moore, Dean of Workforce and Economic Development.

Bevill State Community College serves a seven-county region of northwest Alabama covering over 4,600 square miles and more than one-quarter million people. Over the next five years, workforce data indicates that there will be over 1,000 pharmacy technician and pharmacy aide job openings in the region.

“Adult education programs, such as this free online pharmacy technician program, can be life-changing, helping individuals achieve financial stability. Opportunities like this can make a generational impact on a family,” stated Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State. “The College is dedicated to offering programming that will serve our communities by improving the lives of its citizens and meeting the workforce demands.”
