Bevill State Community College has received a donation of $72,000 for scholarship funds from Alabama Power for minority candidates to the HVAC Fast Track program. The HVAC Fast Track is an accelerated non-credit training program that teaches technical knowledge and skills to repair, install, service, and maintain the operating condition of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Instruction and hands-on training include diagnostic techniques, use of testing equipment, and principles of mechanics, electricity, and electronics as related to repair.

“Bevill State Community College is appreciative of our partnership with Alabama Power. The College has a history of working with APCO on successful projects. This contribution for these HVAC Fast Track scholarships is another example of their continued support and commitment to assisting Bevill State in providing valuable educational opportunities,” stated Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State Community College.

“As a company, we recognize the need to enhance representation of women and minorities in the state’s workforce,” said Alabama Power Western Division Vice President Mark Crews. “We are furthering our commitment to provide opportunities for those underrepresented groups. We greatly appreciate the collaboration with the Alabama Community College System and Bevill State. This partnership will remove barriers for students and give them the opportunity for a meaningful career in the skilled trades industry.”

During the 11-week program, participants are taught in a state-of-the-art facility, by highly qualified Alabama Power instructors. Graduates earn a Bevill State certification, EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Handling Certification, and qualify to take the State of Alabama HVAC-R Contractors Exam. The next HVAC Fast Track program will begin in January 2022.

For applicants to be considered for these funds, they must be 18 years of age or older, belong to a qualifying minority category, complete the HVAC Fast Track Enrollment Application in full, complete the HVAC Fast Track Scholarship Application in full, complete qualification test, and if requested, participate in a scholarship interview.
