MEET THE PRESIDENT

Dr. Joel Hagood was named as President of Bevill State Community College by the Alabama Community College System Chancellor Jimmy H. Baker on Tuesday, November 10, 2020. As President, Dr. Hagood has worked to strategically lead the College toward growth while striving to provide quality education and training opportunities that enrich the lives of our greater college community intellectually, economically, and culturally.

Prior to his presidency at Bevill State, Dr. Hagood’s entire educational career since 1997 was spent in the Walker County School System. He served as Superintendent of Walker County Schools. During this time he was named, District 7 Superintendent of the Year and was a finalist for State of Alabama Superintendent of the Year. He also served on the Council of Leaders of Alabama Schools Board of Directors. Before leading the system, he was the principal at Oakman High School and Director of Curriculum in the Walker County School System. While principal, he served as the District 5 Alabama Secondary of School Principals President. 

Hagood obtained an Educational Doctorate with a focus on Educational Leadership from Samford University. He earned an Educational Specialist degree from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. He graduated with a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor of Science in Comprehensive Social Sciences from The University of Alabama. 

Dr. Hagood is married to the former Jennifer Guthrie, who works as a pharmacist in the Jasper area. She was a former Bevill State student and served as an ambassador. She credits the current Bevill State faculty for her love and understanding of science, and much of the reason for her success in pharmacy school. They have two beautiful children Annleigh and Breck.
