Graduation

The annual commencement ceremony is a highlight of our academic year and the beginning of a rewarding career for graduates of Bevill State Community College. 

Our current plan is to hold an in-person ceremony for graduates only. This will allow us to recognize your accomplishment, but also maintain social distancing guidelines. Your family and friends will be able to view the ceremony via livestream. A recording of the event will also be posted on our website. Students are eligible to participate in the ceremony if they received a degree or certificate during the Fall 2020 semester or will earn their degree or certificate during the Spring 2021 semester.

You must indicate if you plan to participate in our in-person ceremony by completing the 2021 Graduation Participation Form.

Caps and Gowns

Cap and gowns are ordered directly through Herff Jones. Your graduation regalia will be shipped directly to you. The last date to order is April 13, 2021. Additional items are available for purchase from Herff Jones such as the associate degree hood and honor cords. Students who are completing an Associate in Science, Associate in Arts or Associate in Applied Science may purchase the Associate Degree hood. Also, any graduate with a cumulative 3.5 or higher GPA may purchase the honor cords.

Ceremonies

Ceremonies will be held at the following locations all beginning promptly at 2:00 pm:

Hamilton Campus - May 10th
Bevill Building Auditorium

Fayette Campus - May 11th
Earl McDonald Auditorium

Sumiton Campus - May 13th
Building 1400 Exhibition Hall

Jasper Campus - May 14th
Rowland Auditorium

On the day of graduation, please arrive at the College by 1:30 pm to receive your instructions prior to the ceremony. If you need special accommodations for the graduation ceremony, please communicate your needs to the Office of Student Services by May 5th so that provisions may be made.

Proper Attire and Etiquette

Ceremony Etiquette

  • The Commencement Ceremony is a time of great honor and dignity and a special occasion for our graduates and their family members. We ask that you refrain from talking, cheering, excessive movement, and using electronic devices during the ceremony.
  • Once you have entered the auditorium and have been seated you are expected to remain seated until the conclusion of the ceremony marked by the candidate recessional.
  • You will be asked to remove any improper attire, signs and insignia.
  • Cell phones and other electronic equipment should be turned off.
  • Valuables should be left with family members or guests prior to arriving at your assembly location. Do not leave purses, keys, or other personal items in the line-up room or hallway. The College is not responsible for items left in the assembly room, hallways or in the auditorium.

Suggested Attire for Women

  • dark dress or pants, cool fabric
  • dark low heel or flat shoes
  • no high collars or bows at the neck
  • no corsages or jewelry on the robe

Suggested Attire for Men

  • dark trousers, white shirts, tie is optional
  • dark shoes and socks
  • ​no sandals

Positioning the Graduation Attire

  • Position the cap so the top is flat. The cap should not be set on the back of the head. The front of the cap point should be approximately one inch above the eyebrows. Please secure with a bobby pin.
  • Place the tassel on the right side during the ceremony. Graduates will be told when to move the tassel to the left.
